United Methodist Women
United Methodist Women equips members for reflection and informed action through education opportunities and resources. It is the largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members whose mission is fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice.
The UMW meets each month on the second Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
United Methodist Men
All persons who follow Jesus are called to grow spiritually through the practice of various Christian habits, or "means of grace," such as prayer, Bible study, private and corporate worship, acts of service, etc. Jesus taught his disciples practices of spiritual growth and leadership. As Disciples of Christ, we are to share with others as they look to us to be models and guides.
United Methodist Men invites you to connect with us as we keep our eye on the central reason for this ministry — to help others grow to a mature faith in God that moves them to action on behalf of others, especially "the least." (see Matthew 25:31-46) This aspect of "disciple making" is the ultimate goal of all that we do in the church.
The UMM meets each month on the fourth Saturday at 8:00 AM. They will not meet in November or December and resume in January 2012.
Community Emergency Response Team
The Community Emergency Response Team concept was developed and implemeted by the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) in 1985. The area–wide threat of a major earthquake disaster in California underscored the need for training civilians to meet their needs in case of an emergency. CERT is now recofnized, accepted, and approved by, Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA), Emergency Management Institute (EMI), Federal Government Agencies, and all local Emergency Management Services.
The Edmonton — Metcalfe County CERT was formed in the summer of 2009 out of Edmonton United Methodist Church and a total of 17 people completed the 30 hours of trining and testing in October of 2009. Our team was formed to get involved in helping our community in times of crises and emergencies. "Neighbors Helping Neighbors," what a beautiful Christian concept.
The CERT course has better prepared us to respond to and cope with the aftermath of any disaster. We now can provide immediate assistance to victims in our community, organize volunteers who have not had the training, collext disaster intelligence that will assist professional responders, provide fire and medical services, perform search and rescur missions, evacuate neighborhoods, conduct road blocks, and assist professionals in any emergency type setting.
Our 17 CERT Members have been organized into 3 team ready, prepared, and willing to deploy at a moment's notice to assist in our community. They are an extension of the Edmonton—Metcalfe County Emergency Management Services offering immediate help to victims whenever and wherever we are called and needed.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors — down the street, across the country and around the world — in emergencies. The Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The Red Cross offers lifesaving programs and services in communities across the country — so that no one is ever alone in their time of greatest need, helping victims of more than 67,000 disasters annually.
In April of 2010, 5 members of the Edmonton United Methodist Church became certified to set up, conduct, and manage a Red Cross emergency shelter. Through 12 hours of classroom training and testing the group has been trained to respond to disasters, personal ermergencies, and to properly run an emergency shelter facility. We are an extension of the Barren County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
What do you do in case of a disaster without warning? What would you do if basic service — water, gas, electricity, or telephones — were cut off? What would you do if you were forced to evacuate your home, school, workplace, or neighborhood? Don't know, then you need to call the American Red Cross.
